WHAT YOU WILL EXPERIENCE DURING OUR GUIDED TOUR
1. Welcome and Introduction
Arrival and meet-up with the guide, followed by a brief introduction.
2. Visit to Our Furnace
A brief history of glass, the furnace, and its technical aspects. Observe the operational furnace and its various components, from the kiln to the "scagno" (workbench) and traditional tools. Watch the glass master at work, learning about the techniques used to shape and form glass artistically (blown glass and solid glass). This is the highlight of the tour, where you'll witness the magical process of glassmaking firsthand. You’ll see raw materials like silica, calcium, soda, and potassium combined and melted in a "crogiolo" (a refractory stone container) at temperatures of 1,700°C–2,000°C, transforming into molten glass. Using a steel blowpipe and ancient tools, the master extracts the glass from the “crogiolo" inside the kiln. In its highly malleable state, the glass master demonstrates incredible artistry, leaving you amazed by the ease with which he shapes the molten material. You'll observe the blowing technique, where molten glass is inflated through the blowpipe, or the solid glasswork technique for shaping “non-blown” glass. The process concludes with annealing, a phase of gentle cooling within a "muffola" kiln to stabilize the glass structure, enhance its durability, and prevent breakage. Throughout the tour, you'll be guided step by step, discovering the secrets of this ancient craft and appreciating the beauty and value of glassmaking up close.
